Well, I’ve had people tell me over the past few weeks that I should open my own card shop, but of course with a full time job, and a lot of debt, I can’t really do that right now. I have been wanting to do more online selling though. So far I’ve only sold a few things on ebay, not really much at all. So, what I started thinking is maybe I should do an online card shop and also sell some geocaching stuff. Then I got to thinking about all the business and tax stuff, and honestly it’s quite overwhelming. I mean, why can’t I just sell my stuff without having to get a license and have to give half of what I get to the government? Now it does say on the IRS’ website that if you sell something for the same price or less than what you paid for it, then you don’t have to report it. How do they know what you paid for it though? Maybe if you keep the reciepts then they would. So do we have to keep reciepts for every single thing we buy in case one day we decide we want to sell it, so we can prove that we sold it for less than what we paid for it?
It just seems really aggravating, and it discourages me. Now if someone who has an online business would like to help me, and reassure me that this is not as big of a pain in the butt as it looks like, then it would make this a lot easier for me. Otherwise I guess I’ll just start having weekly yard sales….
