After making the post earlier today, I thought I would now post something a little more positive and fun. I have enjoyed collecting things for many many years now, and Coins are no exception. I am not a master or coin collecting by any standard, but I do enjoy partaking in the hobby from time to time. While we were in Hastings the other night, I stumbled across a book called “Striking it Rich with Pocket Change.” I didn’t buy it, but it did get me interested in whether or not it would actually be feasible to find coins in my every day pocket change that could be worth more than the usual penny or quarter.
As it turns out, it is possible to find those coins, and while doing a few searches I came across a couple articles that I thought would be useful in this search. One simply gives eight steps on how to find error coins that are in circulation, while the other gives a list (and info) on the ten most valuable coins you could find in your pocket change (links are posted below). I was surprised to find that there are valuable coins from even just a few years ago. So of course I ran home and found every coin I could, trying to find one that was possibly of significant value, but so far I have had no such luck. I have found a few interesting coins, but nothing to send to the bank…. yet!
It will probably take some time, but like I said, it is very possible to find rare coins in your pocket change. I am determined now to closely examine every coin that passes through my hands, and after I deem that it is not flawed what will I do with it? Nope, not spend it. I will put it right in our coin jar were it will be saved until the jar is full. Sort of a Lottery/Simple Savings plan, except I never have to buy the first ticket, and I never lose! How exciting is that?
