Still sick, but not quite as bad I guess. I thought today was going to be tough because we’re down to the last few bits of food before we go shopping tonight, but so far I’ve been surprised. I had three scrambled eggs with salt, pepper and green onions and carrot sticks for breakfast this morning and I seemed to stay full enough. I know I didn’t have the necessary fat I need, but that’s what our shopping trip tonight is for.
I’ve discovered that I love eggs more than I originally thought I did too… which is good, since they are definitely the cheapest protein we can get. I’m really looking forward to trying some new stuff too, I just hope we can get our budget in the right place were we can start to afford to buy more “fresh” veggies and good, grass fed, pastured, wild caught and sustainable meats. Right now it looks like we’re going to have to rely on more canned veggies than fresh and more of the lower quality meat than the higher quality, but that doesn’t mean we won’t be successful.
Of course I want to eat as healthy as I can, but one of the most important things I want to gain from this experience is not only a change in what we eat, but a change in what we WANT to eat. We may have rely on canned veggies for now, but we are still training our bodies to WANT VEGGIES instead of wanting sugar or processed foods, and that is what our bodies need to learn. I have tried olives twice now just to see if I like them and so far I have not, but guess what’s on the list for tonight? Yep, Olives. If they are as good for me as the Whole 30 plan says, then I can make myself like them. I have made myself like things in the past, so I can do the same with olives.
Now it’s night time, and I’ll just say it’s amazing how a day can start off one way and easily take a right turn. Today ended up being tougher than I had even thought it was going to be. Hilary struggled yesterday with wanting cookies, and today it was with wanting a coke. For those of you who been through dropping a soda addiction, you probably know how she feels. It was tough on her, and unfortunately, with me being sick and not feeling very well myself, I wasn’t as good of an encouragement as I needed to be. Needless to say, for a while our house was not a happy place.
We still went shopping though, and got a good bit of veggies, some fruit, some meat and a little fat, but of course I’m afraid we won’t have enough to make it through till our next shopping trip. Trying to do this on a very very small budget is not easy at all.
Eventually we both started to feel better though, and had a nice dinner of lean ground beef patties, asparagus and some divine baked sweet potato fries! Those things were like a dessert they were so good.
So yea, I’m glad we’re saying goodbye to day 2, and now I say goodnight. Bring on Day 3!
