The fishing bug.
It seems to happen every year when the air gets warm and the sky becomes a clear sea of blue nothing. That’s when the bug bites. It has happened the past few years, but this year the bug got me good, and now I have an itch to fish as often as I possibly can.
I tried to scratch that itch a couple times this past weekend and in the end all I did was give a few small bream a nice snack. It was fun, but it did not get the spot. If anything, it just made the itching worse (and not just because of the sunburn…). Now it is difficult for my mind to focus on anything but fishing. I spend spare time trying to ingest information about rods, reels, lures and techniques that I have never taken the time to learn. I find myself wanting to increase my knowledge of fishing as well as my skill, and the more I learn away from the water, the more I want to be casting my lure into that water.
Just like the sunburn I mentioned above, this itch is in a place I can only scratch with the correct tool. My arms alone can not reach the tiny spot in the middle of my back that itches with the intensity of a raging forest fire. In the same sense, adding knowledge to my fishing arsenal does not quench the fire. It only gives it more room to burn.
So, to put it simply, I need to go fishing. Soon and often!
