Just last week I was finally able to check out “It Starts With Food” from the library. We are planning on starting our second Whole 30 as soon as tomorrow (YAY!!!) so it’s great that I can actually get through most if not all the book before then. Anyway, I was reading through the chapter that talks about eating your meals at the table to help you build a healthy relationship with your food, and not be distracted by other things, and it mentioned that you should not eat lunch at your desk every day. I always eat lunch at my desk, and did so throughout my first Whole 30, but during lunch today I had a great idea.
Since we have not had the opportunity to get our first load of groceries yet (that’s why we haven’t started the Whole 30 yet) I didn’t have anything for lunch and had to go get something. I wasn’t sure what I wanted, so I just walked down town and ended up getting a sandwich from a place called Big Blue Bagel. I had never eaten there and figured I might as well try it since today would probably be my last chance for a while. I got my sandwich and started to head back to the office where I would once again sit at my desk and eat my lunch. As I was walking though, it hit me just how nice of a day it was and how great it would be to just enjoy eating my lunch outside. I found a nice bench outside Samford Hall (in the shade of course) and enjoyed my lunch.
As I sat there eating I got the idea that at least during my Whole 30 I should make it a point to eat my lunch in a different location every day. If it’s nice outside (and by nice I mean not raining) then I’ll find somewhere outside to eat. If it’s not nice, then I’ll find somewhere inside, or at least out of the rain. I even thought I might take it a step further and say that I would not eat at the same place twice, but that could possible be a problem at times, so I’ll just say that I will TRY not to eat at the same place twice.
With all the nice places around campus though, I don’t think this will be too big of a problem. It will get me outside and away from my desk, I can enjoy my food and I can enjoy nature at the same time. Sounds like a win win to me!
Oh, and I will be once again blogging about my Whole 30 experience, but probably not daily like I did last time. Instead I will plan on doing at least one Whole 30 post each week, in addition to any other posts I have.
