So I just asked my sister for an idea for a blog post, and her response was “How about how amazing your sister is?” Now my sister is quite a special person, as are many other people in my life. She is almost two years younger than me, but at times it seems she is many years older. Of course there are many things I may disagree with her on, but she does possess knowledge and wisdom that a some people might think should only come from someone twice her age. So, when she said I should write about my amazing sister, I started thinking….. what would make someone amazing? To the dictionary!
a-maz-ing
[uh–mey-zing] –adjective causing great surprise or sudden wonder.
Surprise and sudden wonder? I thought amazing just meant “really really cool and super fantastic!” In that area I would say Amy fits, because she is cool and super fantastic, but when I read the definition of amazing, someone else jumped right out. Yep, you guessed it. Jesus.
22“Men of Israel, listen to this: Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by God to you by miracles, wonders and signs, which God did among you through him, as you yourselves know. 23This man was handed over to you by God’s set purpose and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men,[d] put him to death by nailing him to the cross. 24But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him. – Acts 2:22-24
Jesus stunned people. He performed miracles, and filled the people with wonder. I would say that alone definitely made him pretty amazing, but there was one thing he did the I think would make him not just amazing, but The Amazing! He died. He was God, come to earth as a man. Could do ANYTHING and yet he chose to die. How amazing is that? And to top it all, he didn’t just die to see what it would be like, he died to save US! He suffered horribly, and died a horrific death so that we could once and for all be reconciled with him. So that we could once again walk in the garden with God, and talk with him. God loved us so much that he came to earth and DIED! Now that is amazing.
But that’s not the end….
He didn’t just die and then dissapear. Three days later he alive! He had died and come back to life. Now if somebody died today, and sat up in the casket at the funeral, he would probably be the only one alive after everyone else had their heart attacks, but Jesus did just that. Just think how those Roman Soldiers guarding the tomb might have felt (if they were actually still there hiding in the bushes maybe?) when that stone rolled away early Sunday morning and Jesus, who they had most likely watched die, just walked out. Wouldn’t they be greatly surprised and filled with sudden wonder? I personally would probably run away screaming like a girl, but this really happened. Too many people today say that God is dead…. well, he did die, but guess what, he came back, and he did it all for us. He is absolutely 110% A-MA-ZING!
“If you’re going through a tough time in your life, look at Jesus’ scars and remember that not only has he been there too, but he is there with you now!”
